Privacy notice
Last updated: 30 October 2026
The short version: this site has no accounts, no comments, no ads, no analytics and no tracking cookies. The only personal data involved is the technical data any website needs to reach you, anything you choose to email me, and what YouTube collects if you press play on a video.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Jarlarex, an individual based in Ireland, who runs The Phosphor. You can contact me about anything in this notice at brandonsniffer@gmail.com.
I’m not required to have a Data Protection Officer and I haven’t appointed one.
What I process and why
Visiting the site
| What | Your IP address, browser details, the page you asked for and the time of the request |
| Why | To deliver the page to you and keep the site secure and working |
| Legal basis | Legitimate interests, GDPR Article 6(1)(f). A website can’t be delivered without this, and the impact on you is minimal |
| Who handles it | Cloudflare, Inc., which hosts the site |
| How long | Technical logs are kept by Cloudflare for the period its own retention rules set. I don’t use them to identify visitors |
Emailing me
| What | Your email address, your name if you give it, and whatever you write |
| Why | To read and answer your message, and to deal with corrections, tips, privacy requests or complaints |
| Legal basis | Legitimate interests, GDPR Article 6(1)(f), in answering people who get in touch |
| Who handles it | Google, which provides the email account |
| How long | Until the matter is finished, then deleted within 24 months, unless I need it longer to deal with a legal claim |
Playing a YouTube video
Videos on this site don’t load until you press play. Until then, thumbnails come from this site and your browser doesn’t contact YouTube.
| What | When you press play, YouTube receives your IP address and browser details and may set cookies or similar technologies, including if you’re signed in to Google |
| Why | To play the video you asked for |
| Legal basis | Your consent, given by pressing play, GDPR Article 6(1)(a) and Regulation 5 of S.I. 336 of 2011. You can withdraw it at any time by not playing videos and clearing YouTube’s cookies in your browser. That doesn’t affect anything before you withdrew |
| Who handles it | Google Ireland Limited, as a separate controller. See Google’s privacy policy |
| How long | Set by Google |
Pressing “Watch on YouTube” or a share button takes you to that other site, and its own privacy policy applies from there.
Cookies and browser storage
This site doesn’t set any cookies of its own.
If you press the light and dark theme button, your choice is saved in your own browser under the name theme, using local storage. It’s only saved because you asked for it, it’s never sent to me, and it stays until you clear your browser data. Because you asked for it and it’s strictly necessary to remember that choice, it doesn’t need consent under Regulation 5(5) of S.I. 336 of 2011.
Search works inside your browser using files from this site. What you type isn’t sent to me or to anyone else.
If I ever add analytics, advertising or anything else that needs consent, it won’t run until you’ve agreed, and this notice will be updated first.
Transfers outside the EEA
Cloudflare and Google are global companies, so your data may be processed outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where that happens, those companies rely on safeguards recognised under Chapter V of the GDPR, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses. You can ask me for more information about this.
What I don’t do
I don’t sell your data. I don’t use it for advertising or profiling, and no decisions are made about you by automated means. You don’t have to give me any personal data to read the site. If you email me, I’ll need your address to reply.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of your personal data
- have inaccurate data corrected
- have your data deleted in certain cases
- restrict how it’s used in certain cases
- object to processing based on legitimate interests
- receive data you gave me in a portable format, where that applies
- withdraw consent at any time
Email me to use any of these. It’s free, and I’ll answer within one month. I may need to ask you to confirm who you are. Cloudflare’s server logs aren’t something I can search by person, so for those you may need to contact Cloudflare directly.
Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how your data has been handled, please tell me first and I’ll try to fix it. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. In Ireland that’s the Data Protection Commission:
Data Protection Commission, 6 Pembroke Row, Dublin 2, D02 X963, Ireland. Phone: (01) 765 01 00 or 1800 437 737. Website: dataprotection.ie.
If you live elsewhere in the EU, you can complain to the authority in your own country.
Children
The site is for a general audience and isn’t aimed at children. It doesn’t ask for personal data. If you’re under 16 and have emailed me, a parent or guardian can ask me to delete that email.
Changes to this notice
If what the site does with your data changes, I’ll update this page and the date at the top before the change happens.
