Forza Horizon 6 Hits PS5 in January, and This Time Your Save Comes Too

Forza Horizon 6 lands on PS5 on the 26th of January with cross-save and a disc. Horizon 5 had neither, and it took years longer to get there.

Forza Horizon 6 comes to PS5 on the 26th of January 2027, and the headline for me isn’t the date. It’s that you’ll be able to move your save between Xbox, Steam and PlayStation, which is a lot more than Horizon 5 ever offered.

Playground Games opened PS5 pre-orders on the 8th of October. The standard and Deluxe editions arrive on the 26th of January, and Premium owners get in five days early, on the 21st. Panic Button is handling the version in close collaboration with Playground and Turn 10, the same studio that did the PS5 version of Horizon 5.

The first expansion lands on all platforms on the 21st of January as well, and there’s a free content update coming with the PS5 launch. Details on that one are still to come. Forza didn’t list any gameplay differences from the Xbox version, and I couldn’t find anything official about PS5 Pro.

How it’s different from Horizon 5

The change here is bigger than it looks.

Horizon 5 came out on Xbox and PC in November 2021 and didn’t reach PS5 until the 29th of April 2025. That was the first time a mainline Forza game had ever left Microsoft’s platforms, and it took about three and a half years. Horizon 6 launched on Xbox and PC on the 19th of May this year, so PS5 players are waiting about eight months.

Horizon 5 on PS5 was digital only, and there was no cross-save or cross-progression with Xbox, so moving meant starting again. Horizon 6 fixes both.

The disc is worth a mention too, given where we are. GTA 6 is coming out on the same console with a download code in a box, while a Forza game, of all things, gets a disc. I’ve written about what happens to Forza games when they come off sale, so I’m not going to complain about that one.

Is it worth the wait?

Cross-save is the right call, and it’s the kind of thing that used to be unthinkable. If you’ve a Series X in one room and a PS5 in another, you can now pick either. Eight months is also a short enough wait that PS5 players won’t feel like they turned up to the festival after everyone’s gone home.

The bit I’d watch is the timing. Horizon 6 will be eight months old with its first expansion dropping that same week, so PS5 players are getting a game that’s already moving. That could be great for them, or it could mean a very big game with a lot to catch up on. I’d also like to see how it runs on a base PS5 at 60fps before anyone buys it on trust, because all we’ve seen so far is a trailer captured in the 30fps mode.
